Pirates post wins over Cuyamaca, Palomar

COSTA MESA -- It was a good week for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team following back-to-back wins over Cuyamaca, 6-3 on Tuesday and Palomar, 7-2 on Thursday to improve to 3-1 overall.

In the win over Cuyamaca, Coast grabbed a 4-2 lead after singles play with wins by Krystal Hernandez (6-1, 5-7, 6-2), Maddie Koehly (5-7, 6-1, 6-2), Michelle Cyrus (6-0, 6-3) and Vanessa Scott (6-3, 6-1).

In doubles play, the teams of Hernandez/Kitty Trinh (8-0) and Scott/Heather Graham (8-3) prevailed for the Pirates.

On Thursday, it was more of the same as Koehly (2-6, 6-3, 10-6 tiebreaker), Cyrus (6-2, 6-0), Trinh (6-1, 6-0) and Mai Hashimoto (6-1, 6-0) came out on top in singles.

Over in doubles, it was a clean sweep for the Pirates, led by Hernandez/Nicole Pham (9-7), Koehly/Cyrus (8-2) and Hashimoto/Trinh (8-0).

OCC will return to action on Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup at Saddleback College, beginning at 2 p.m.
