Pirates back on winning track with 8-1 win over Cypress
COSTA MESA -- There were plenty of smiles to go around at the Orange Coast College Tennis Complex on Thursday as the host Pirates topped Cypress, 8-1, in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.
It was a clean sweep for the Pirates (8-4, 5-2 in OEC) in singles play. OCC's Michelle Cyrus came back strong against Charger Nicole Roque and won, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
The other five wins were a bit easier as Krystal Hernandez (6-1, 6-1), Nicole Pham (7-6, 6-3), Maddie Koehly (6-3, 6-0), Mai Hashimoto (6-1, 6-0) and Kitty Trinh (6-4, 6-3) each posted straight-set victories.
In doubles, Koehly/Cyrus played strong and won, 8-2, while teammates Heather Graham and Vanessa Scott notched an 8-6 win.
The Pirates will return to action on Thursday at Fullerton College, beginning at 2 p.m.
