Kenoi named women's volleyball Player of the Week

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College freshman outside hitter Mahina Kenoi was honored for her outstanding play by being named the State Women's Volleyball Co-Player of the Week for Week 10, as selected by Robert Lewis of the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association.

In a crucial five-set win over Fullerton College, Kenoi notched 14 kills, 15 digs and two solo blocks in OCC's 17-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-21, 15-11 win over the rival Hornets.

Two nights later, the 5-foot-5 slugger ripped a team-best 15 kills to go along with 18 digs as the Pirates rolled past Santa Ana, 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-21.

For the season, Kenoi has come through for the Pirates (16-4, 9-3 in Orange Empire Conference) with 156 kills, 256 digs and a team-best 18 service aces. Her 256 digs are second-best among Pirate defenders and she's tied for seventh among the rest of the Orange Empire Conference.

Kenoi has been a steady weapon for the Pirates in 2019, helping her club to a second-place spot in the Orange Empire Conference with four matches remaining. OCC will play at Santiago Canyon on Wednesday night (6 p.m.) before returning to the Peterson Gym on Friday to host first-place Irvine Valley, also at 6 p.m.
