Pirates explode from the gate and go 4-0 at Saddleback Tournament

MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team opened the 2017 season with a strong statement, ripping off wins over Modesto, Sierra, Grossmont and Palomar this past weekend at the Saddleback College Tournament.

The keys to victory were a relentless offensive attack by the Pirates and strong goaltending by freshman Avery Goodall, who notched 27 saves throughout the weekend.

OCC set the pace in the water all weekend long with 56 goals over its four matchups, averaging 14 goals per contest.

Bailey Lloyd led the way with 11 goals and 11 assists in the Pirates' four wins, while Shawna Kedzie added 10 goals and Hannah Binder threw in eight. Brooke Branum also had a strong weekend with four goals and five assists.

The Pirates will continue tournament action this weekend at Riverside City College, beginning on Friday morning.
