Pirates topple Rustlers in the pool, 9-4

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College women's water polo team picked up an impressive 9-4 win over rival Golden West College on Wednesday at GWC in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Bailey Lloyd led the way for OCC (8-1, 1-0 in OEC) with six goals, while Laurin Semmelroth added a pair of goals and Shawna Kedzie tossed in one goal.

Coast led throughout the contest, scoring the first three goals of the match. The Rustlers trailed 6-3 in the fourth before scoring the first goal of the quarter to make it 6-4.

But from there, OCC shut down the Rustlers' defense, while tacking on three goals, thanks to a single tally by Kedzie and Semmelroth's two goals of the afternoon.

While the offense was finding success, the OCC defense was strong surrounding Pirate goalie Avery Goodall, who finished with 12 big saves against the Rustlers, who dropped their first match of the season (8-1, 0-1).

Coast will head up to Mt. San Antonio College for a weekend tournament before continuing OEC play at Fullerton College on Wednesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
