Pirates rally late to top Tigers, 6-3

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College baseball team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 6-3 Orange Empire Conference win over Riverside City College on Saturday at the Evans Sports Complex.

Trailing 3-2 in the top of the eighth inning, Coast (16-17, 7-11) picked up a pair of two-run hits from Robert Teel and Mondesi Gutierrez to put the Pirates ahead for good.

Gutierrez went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI, while Jake Scott, J.T. Navarro and Chris Prescott each added two hits each for Coast.

The timely hitting helped give starter Jack Pabich the win. The sophomore righty went the distance and improved to 4-2 after allowing three runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in a gritty 117-pitch effort.

The Pirates will wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against Santa Ana, beginning on Tuesday at SAC's Don Sneddon Field at 2 p.m. The Pirates and Dons will play at OCC on Thursday (2 p.m.) before both teams return to Santa Ana College on Friday (2 p.m.) for the finale.
