Pirates drop home opener to Palomar

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team played its first home game of the 2015-16 season and came up short against Palomar in an 86-76 loss on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Jamaal Lee had another spectacular night with 29 points and 14 rebounds on 11-of-16 shooting, but the rest of the Pirates (1-3) went just 13-for-38 (34.2%) from the floor.

Josh Mendoza added 14 points for Coast, while Ibrahim Gerlach battled through early foul trouble to score 11 points. Anthony Murdica came off the bench and scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

Ryan Schaefer had 23 points to lead the Comets (1-3), while Deven Riley added 21 points and six assists.

OCC will play at Miramar on Friday, beginning at 5 p.m. Coast will be on the road for the remainder of its nonconference schedule and will return to the Peterson Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 6 against Cypress, beginning at 5 p.m.
