Pirates surge in second half to top Dons, 83-71

SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball used a strong second half to push past Santa Ana College on Friday night, 83-71, in an Orange Empire Conference matchup played inside SAC's Cook Gym.

Josh Mendoza nailed seven 3-pointers and led the Pirates (7-9, 1-1 in OEC) with 25 points, while Jamaal Lee notched another double-double with 23 points and 18 rebounds to go along with seven assists and three steals. Off the bench, Jumoke Walker tossed in 13 points, while Aidan Ptasznik added 11 points and five rebounds.

Coast overcame a 14-point first-half deficit and led by a point at the half, 43-42. OCC then opened the second half with a 7-0 run to lead by eight and the Dons (4-12, 0-2) could not respond. De'Jon Frazier had 16 points and six rebounds for SAC, while Roger Hamel added 14 points.

The Pirates return to the Peterson Gym on Wednesday night to host Irvine Valley, beginning at 5 p.m.
