Pirates go 2-1 at Glendale tournament

GLENDALE -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team picked up a pair of hard-fought wins during this week's three-game Glendale College Men's Basketball Tournament, held Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at Glendale College.

In Wednesday's opener, Coast fell to Rio Hondo, 65-61. Kyle Lawson led the Pirates with 16 points and five assists, while Anthony Murdica added 13 points and eight rebounds. The Roadrunners pulled out the win by outscoring Coast at the free-throw line, 15-6.

On Friday, Coast regrouped and picked up an 81-62 win over Santa Barbara City College. OCC jumped out to a 43-28 halftime lead and never looked back. Jamaal Lee led the Pirates with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Lawson continued his fine play with 15 points and three assists. Murdica chipped in 12 points, while Josh Mendoza added 10 points. Coast out-rebounded the Vaqueros, 41-27, to control the game on the both sides of the floor.

On Saturday, Coast topped L.A. Pierce, 68-62, to improve to 4-8 overall this year. Stats were not available at the time of this press release. 

After taking some time off for Christmas, the Pirates will return to tournament action on Monday, Dec. 28 at the College of the Canyons Holiday Classic, where they will host Barstow, beginning at 1 p.m.
