Pirates rally for 2-2 tie against MiraCosta

OCEANSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team overcame a slow start and earned a 2-2 tie with MiraCosta College on Friday in both teams' season opener.

MiraCosta jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals by Edgar Martinez and Jordan Curry in the first 16 minutes of the match before the Pirates regrouped and got back into the match.

Just before the end of the first half, Vitor Gameiro was fouled inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick. From there, the freshman midfielder ripped his shot past the MC goalkeeper, cutting the Spartans' lead to 2-1.

The Pirates managed to tie up the match eight minutes into the second half as Gameiro slipped a nice pass to Nicholas Cardenas, who found the back of the net to square things up.

Coast outshot the Spartans 11-5 throughout the match, but could not find the back of the net the rest of the afternoon. Goalkeeper Jack Tunstall notched three saves for OCC.

After playing at El Camino College on Tuesday, the Pirates will host Chaffey College on Friday, beginning at 3 p.m.
