Pirates roll past Mustangs, 5-0

COSTA MESA -- After a less-than chipper first half of play, the Orange Coast College men's soccer team came came alive in the second half and cruised to a 5-0 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Norco College on Tuesday.

The Pirates (4-3-7, 3-2-2 in OEC) had a few early scoring opportunities in the first half but a pair of shots rang off the crossbar and after a scoreless 45 minutes of play, OCC turned up the jets and began to find success.

Just four minutes into the second half, Dominic Bair used his speed to get past his defender, then, rolled a pass to teammate Achref Beldi, who deflected the ball past Norco goalkeeper Angel Gutierrez to put the Pirates ahead for good.

In the 54th minute Beldi fed a pass to teammate Vitor Gameiro and the big midfielder beat Gutierrez to the ball and scored to make it 2-0.

Less than a minute later, Beldi earned his second assist in a row when he fed Bair, who sped down the line, stopped and ripped a shot into the open quadrant of the goal to give Coast a 3-0 advantage.

Beldi capped off his four-point afternoon with his third assist of the match, slipping a pass to Nicholas Cardenas, who beat Gutierrez in the 67th minute.

Cardenas returned the favor and earned an assist on Bair's second goal of the afternoon, which capped off the scoring for the Pirates in the 73rd minute.

OCC goalkeeper Sina Shahnazari notched three saves to collect the shutout win.

Coast will return to action on Tuesday at Santiago Canyon College (3 p.m.). OCC's next home match will be Tuesday, Oct. 24 against Irvine Valley, also at 3 p.m.
