NORCO -- A strong second half of play helped improve the moods of the players and coaches on the Orange Coast College men's soccer team, who wrapped up the regular season with a 4-1 win over host Norco College on Friday afternoon.
The Pirates (8-5-8, 7-4-3), who will find out on Tuesday if playoffs are in their future, jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Dominic Bair took a feed from Meven Amglade and buried his shot into the back of the net.
Just 13 minutes later, the inspired Mustangs (2-15-3, 1-13-0) evened the match at 1-1 with a goal by Gustavo Gonzalez and it stayed that way for the rest of the first half.
But the Pirates regained the lead with a pair of goals over a two-minute span to put the Mustangs away for good. In the 53rd minute, Nicholas Cardenes took a pass from Achref Beldi and scored to make it 2-1, and, in the 55th minute, Bair notched his second goal of the afternoon off a Vitor Gameiro assist.
Finally, in the 72nd minute, Carlos Ambrosi took a feed from Cardenas and scored to close out the scoring.
OCC goalkeeper Sina Shahnazari finished the afternoon with six saves to help the Pirates close out the regular season with a victory.
