Scoring outburst lifts Pirates past Hawks, 4-1

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's soccer team ripped off three straight goals over a five-minute span to pull away from visiting Santiago Canyon, topping the visiting Hawks, 4-1, on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.

Neither team was able to connect for most of the first half before the Pirates (2-1-5, 1-0-0 in OEC) suddenly began to pick the Hawks (0-5-3, 0-2-0) apart.

In the 35th minute, a nice feed by Vitor Gameiro to Parker Roberson got the first scoring chance going for Coast. Roberson then chipped a nice pass into open space, where freshman Carlos Ambrosi caught up to the ball and one-timed a shot into the side panel of the net, putting OCC up, 1-0.

Just two minutes later, another nice breakout pass by Dominic Bair ended up on the foot of teammate Achref Beldi, who slid a pass across SCC's goal area to a wide-open Roberson, who buried the shot into the net, giving Coast a 2-0 advantage.

In the 40th minute Gameiro earned an assist when he sent another open-field pass to Ambrosi and again, the forward didn't make a mistake, ripping a one-time shot into the goal to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead near the end of the first half.

Coast made it 4-0 when Beldi earned his second assist of the afternoon, slipping a nice pass to Bair, who found the back of the net to cap off OCC's day of scoring.

SCC picked up a penalty shot midway through the second half to make it 4-1, but it was too little, too late for the Hawks as OCC shut things down the rest of the afternoon.

After a bye on Tuesday, the Pirates will return to action at Irvine Valley College on Friday, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Friday, Sept. 29 against Santa Ana, also at 3 p.m.
