Pirates end team season with 8-1 win over Fullerton
COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's tennis team wrapped up the 2014 regular season with an 8-1 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Fullerton College on Friday.
Coast (9-8, 4-6 in OEC) picked up straight-set wins from Tokunosuke Takahashi (6-2, 6-2), Ryu Miyake (6-0, 6-0), Pinoe Chu (6-4, 6-2), Tony Wright (6-1, 6-1) and Brian Dao (6-2, 6-0).
In doubles play, it was a clean sweep for the Pirates with wins coming from Miyake/Chu (8-6), Takahashi/Rob Maronne (8-3) and Wright/Dao (8-2).
While team play has ended for the Pirates, there is still plenty of tennis left to be played. Beginning on Thursday, Irvine Valley College will host the 2014 Orange Empire Conference Tournament, with several Coast players qualifying for the event.
Among the seeded players for the Pirates in this three-day event include Takahashi (4th), Miyake (9th) and Chu (13th). In doubles, Takahashi/Miyake are seeded fourth.
