Pirate men go 2-0 against Golden West, Fullerton

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field team took care of business in Friday's tri-meet with host Golden West and visiting Fullerton, topping the Rustlers, 107-42 and beating the Hornets, 97-44.

Sophomore Austin Brown took home the fastest times in both the 200-meter run (22.69 seconds) and the 400 (49.29), while distance specialist Hector Leon Gaspar topped the field in both the 1,500 (4:17.72) and 3,000 (9:31.21). In the 3K, Leon Gaspar dominated the competition and crossed the line 36 seconds ahead of runner-up Luke Baird of Golden West (10:07.79).

OCC hurdler Alixander Morse earned the top spot in both the 110 hurdles (16.06) and 400 hurdles (56.34), and helped guide the 1600 relay team with Brown, Javier Molina and Cody Epstein to a first-place time of 3:32.59.

In the sprint relay, Brown, Epstein, Molina and David Alvarez clocked in with a winning 400-meter team time of 44.8.

In the field events, Pirate thrower Alejandro Aguilar captured two top marks in the shot put (37 feet, 5 1/2 inches) and the javelin throw (131-1).

Other individual top performances for the Pirates came from Michael Drew Dobbs in the hammer throw (95-6 1/2), Darius Kennedy in the triple jump (37-2 3/4), Keldon Brent in the high jump (5-5 1/2) and Colin Takushi in the 800 (2:10.06). 

Coast will head up to Long Beach State for an invitational on Friday, beginning at 10 a.m.
