Morse takes second in decathlon at OEC Multi-Event Championships

RIVERSIDE -- Orange Coast College sophomore Alixander Morse took on the top athletes in the Orange Empire Conference on Wednesday and finished second overall in the decathlon with 5,413 points at the OEC Multi-Event Championships, hosted by Riverside City College.

Morse was edged out of the top spot by RCC freshman Deryhan Harris (5,454), but finished ahead of RCC's Tyler Lufkin (4,797), and Jacob Shade (4,477), Saddleback's Nate Bustamante (4,402) and the Riverside duo of Jacob Reynolds (4,327) and Justin Reed (3,973).

Morse notched three first-place, one second-place and two third-place performances throughout the 10-event competition. He won the 400 meters with a time of 51.78 seconds and also clocked first in the 110 high hurdles with a time of 15.56. 

In the javelin, Morse used a big second attempt to edge out Lufkin with a winning mark of 129-feet, 1/4-inch. Lufkin took second with at 129-feet.

Morse took second in the 1,500 (4:27.61) and finished third in the discus throw (81-7 1/2) and high jump (5-4). His strong performances on Wednesday have earned him a spot at the upcoming Southern California Heptathlon/Decathlon Championships, which will take place on April 3-4 at Cerritos College.
