SAN DIEGO -- Orange Coast College will have a pair of standout track and field participants -- Austin Brown and Alixander Morse -- at this weekend's California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships, hosted by Bakersfield College.

Brown reached the finals of the 400-meter dash at last weekend's Southern California Regionals at San Diego Mesa College, after winning his preliminary heat with a time of 48.04. In the finals, he took on the best in the region and finished third overall with a time of 47.5, trailing Riverside's Keylan Dennis (46.86) and Keanon Dennis (47.37). RCC's Christopher Shiley (47.66) finished fourth, while Pasadena City College's Brennan Doyle (47.96) placed fifth in a race that came right down to the wire.

For Morse, he qualified for the State Meet in the Decathlon back on April 3 at the Southern California Heptathlon/Decathlon Championships after finishing fourth overall with 5,631 points.

On Day 1, Morse finished second in the high jump (6-feet, 1 1/4-inches) to highlight a four-event set that saw him finish with a 12.15 in the 100, a long jump of 18-9 and a shot put mark of 26-5 3/4. He also placed third overall in the 400 with a time of 51.96.

On Day 2, Morse continued his fine all-around performance by finishing second in the 110 high hurdles (15.86) before ending the event with a runner-up time in the 1,500 (4:29.8). He also earned solid points in the discus (93-8), the pole vault (9-10) and javelin throw (124-2).
