Brown takes fourth, Morse places 10th at CCCAA State Track Championships

BAKERSFIELD -- The Orange Coast College men's track and field twosome of Austin Brown and Alixander Morse qualified for the finals of the California Community College Athletic Association State Track and Field Championships this past weekend and the Pirate duo did not disappoint.

Brown qualified in the finals of the 400-meter dash and took on the best the state had to offer. It was a tight race right from the start as Brown battled Quincey Hall (College of the Sequoias), Myles Ellis (American River), Keylan Dennis (Riverside) and Christopher Shiley (Riverside) for first place.

In the final home stretch, Brown hung tough and finished fourth overall with a time of 47.39 seconds, trailing only Hall (46.41), Ellis (47.13) and Dennis (47.19). Shiley finished fifth overall with a time of 47.93, followed by Brennan Doyle of Pasadena City College (48.2), Deanon Dennis of Riverside (48.25), Nathan Friginette of Sequoias (48.65) and Cory Lyons of American River (49.64).

Brown's race can be seen HERE at the 2:10:00 mark of the video.

Morse, who qualified for state after a strong showing at the Southern California Regional Decathlon/Heptathlon back on March 7, finished 10th at Saturday's State Meet with 5,328 points. American River's Alex Robie took home the gold with 6,133 points.

In the grueling 10-event, two-day competition, Morse battled through the warm Bakersfield temperatures and notched four top-four performances, including a second place time in the 400 (51.73), a third in the 1,500 (4:32.82), a third in the 110 hurdles (15.57) and a fourth in the javelin throw (135-feet, 9-inches).
