Pirates roll past Vaqueros

SANTA BARBARA -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball team improved to 3-0 this year with a convincing three-set sweep over Santa Barbara City College on Saturday afternoon.

Adrian Faitalia led the Pirate offense with 13 kills, while Gianluca Grasso chipped in eight. 

Middle blockers Will Donald and Matthew Ujkic combined to go 10-for-19 in kill attempts with only one error.

Libero Jordan Hoppe anchored the defense with six digs, while Andrew McCall dished out 16 assists and teammate Sean Keyes added 14.

The Pirates will play their first home match of the season on Wednesday against El Camino College, beginning at 6 p.m.

Also coming up, the Pirates will host their first-ever "North vs. South" quad matches on Saturday, Feb. 20. Coast will host Irvine Valley, Long Beach City and Santa Monica City colleges in an, all-day, four-match series inside the Peterson Gym.

The schedule for the quad is as follows ... 

  • 10:30 a.m. -- Irvine Valley vs. Long Beach City
  • 1 p.m. -- Santa Monica vs. Orange Coast
  • 4:30 p.m. -- Irvine Valley vs. Santa Monica
  • 7 p.m. -- Long Beach vs. Orange Coast



 

 

 

Since 1991, these four schools have combined for 11 state chamionships, including seven titles over the past 10 years.
