Pirates quieted by Hawks, 9-0

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College softball team contended with the hot weather and the even hotter bats of Santiago Canyon and the Hawks prevailed, 9-0, in six innings, on Friday at the OCC Softball Complex.

The Hawks (18-7, 8-5 in the OEC) made the most of their situations with runners on base and collected seven of those nine runs on only three hits. In the first, SCC's Alexa Guerra ripped a two-run home run, then, added a three-run double in the fourth, finishing the day with two hits, two walks and five RBI.

Anjanette Carranza belted a two-run home run in the sixth for the Hawks, putting the guests up 8-0. Ashley Clark added an RBI-double to close out the scoring.

The Pirates struggled at the plate and collected just one hit -- a single by Mariah Dominguez -- off of starter Stephanie Pelletier (7-5). She pitched five innings and allowed just two baserunners the entire afternoon.

OCC will return to action on Wednesday at Saddleback, beginning at 3 p.m. Coast's next home game will be on Friday against Santa Ana, beginning at 2 p.m.
