Coast clobbers ECC-Compton in doubleheader sweep

COMPTON -- The Orange Coast College softball team made the absolute most of Saturday's doubleheader matchup at El Camino College-Compton Center, blasting the Tartars, 29-1, in the opener before taking the nightcap, 17-0.

In the opener, the Pirates jumped out to a 6-0 lead before busting the door down with a 17-run second inning and a 6-run third inning. ECC-Compton committed nine errors along the way as OCC rolled to an easy win.

Cayle Ezelle went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and six RBI, while Taylor Gallo notched four hits, including a triple and home run, scored five times and drove in four.

In the second game, it was more of the same as Coast opened with a six-run first before tacking on four runs over each of the next two innings.

Jenna Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two runs and five RBI, while Ezelle again went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.

In all, the Pirates scored 46 runs on 41 hits with 11 doubles, five triples and four home runs ... in just TWO GAMES. Ezelle finished with eight hits and nine RBI (she had 10 all of last year).

The pitching tandem of Carlie Chaulsett-Utley and Montana Roelvink combined to allow just one run on four hits with 10 strikeouts over 10 innings.

Coast will host Long Beach City College on Friday at 9:30 a.m. and Southwestern College at 2 p.m. in a three-way doubleheader at the OCC Softball Complex. SWC and LBCC will play the second game of the three games slated for the entire day.
