Pirates win third straight with 9-3 win over Rio Hondo

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College softball team has found some late-season magic, winning its third game in a row with a solid 9-3 nonconference victory over visiting Rio Hondo on Saturday.

The top of the order for OCC took care of business against the Roadrunners (10-28) as the 1-4 hitters of Cayla Ezelle (2-for-3, three runs, one RBI), Linnea Donahugh (1-for-3, two runs, two RBI), Briana Covarrubias (2-for-4, one run, four RBI) and Anna Marin (3-for-4, two RBI) provided the most damage.

The Pirates jumped out to a 7-0 lead, withstood a three-run frame by Rio Hondo and added a pair of runs in the fifth to claim their third win in four days after topping Golden West, 21-0, on Wednesday and Saddleback, 4-2, on Friday.

Carlie Chaulsett-Utley picked up the win for the Pirates, who will wrap up the regular season at home on Wednesday against Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m.
