COSTA MESA -- With the injuries piling up, the Orange Coast College women's soccer team needed to find some offense wherever it could be found and on Tuesday at the OCC Soccer Complex, it was found in a big way.
With two goals each by Cori Haney and McKayla Carter, the Pirates found some early confidence and breezed past visiting Santa Ana College, 7-0, in an Orange Empire Conference matchup.
Danielle Dapello added a goal and an assist for the Pirates (7-6-1, 5-5-0 in OEC), while Janna Purcell and Samantha Sandzimier each added single goals. Devan Ellison and Jordan Bradley each had two assists, while single assists were turned in by Petra Tobin and Sarah Guest.
OCC outshot the Dons 18-5 in the contest and controlled things from the opening whistle.
In the 10th minute, a nice header pass from Dapello to Sandzimier produced the Pirates' first goal of the game and just 11 minutes later, a flick-pass from Ellison to Haney allowed the freshman midfielder to find the back of the net as well.
Leading 3-0 at the half, the Dons (2-8-3, 1-5-3) picked up some extra life with a supporting wind at their backs, but OCC goalkeeper Karsen Camarena was up to the task, making three second-half saves, incuding one impressive, diving stop that she redirected wide of the goal.
Coast blew the match open with three goals in a five-minute span as Haney picked up her second of the game off a Tobin assist, Dapiello off an Ellison assist and Purcell off a Bradley assist, putting Coast up 6-0.
It's been all or nothing for the Coast offense as of late. The Pirates are 2-5 in their last seven contests, scoring 13 goals in their two wins and just one goal in their five losses.
The offense looks for more success on Friday at Fullerton College, beginning at 3 p.m. OCC's next home contest will be on Tuesday against Cypress, also at 3 p.m.
