WHITTIER -- Devan Ellison scored the only goal that the Orange Coast College women's soccer team would need as the Pirates held on for a 1-0 nonconference win on Wednesday over host Rio Hondo.
Ellison, a sophomore midfielder from El Toro HS, took a feed from freshman forward Samantha Sandzimer and beat the Roadrunners' goalkeeper in the 20th minute, putting Coast (2-0-1) ahead for good.
Goalkeeper Jordyn Gressier made that lone goal stand up as she notched five saves to pick up the shutout victory.
The Pirates will make their home debut on Tuesday against Chaffey College, beginning at 3 p.m. at the OCC Soccer Complex.
