Ellison, Janssen lead Pirates past Hornets, 3-0

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team picked up its third straight Orange Empire Conference victory with a 3-0 win over visiting Fullerton College on Tuesday afternoon at the OCC Soccer Complex.

The Pirates (5-1-1, 3-0 in OEC) dominated play against the Hornets (3-5, 0-3), outshooting their guests 17-2.

Devin Ellison had two goals for Coast, while teammate Juliet Janssen added a goal and an assist. Jordan Bradley and Samantha Sandzimier each dished out assists in the win as well.

OCC started applying pressure right away, earning corner kick after corner kick against the Hornets' defense. Finally, in the 32nd minute, Bradley sent her four CK into the scoring area, where Ellison headed the ball past FC goalkeeper Mallory Van Voorhis, putting Coast ahead for good.

Three minutes into the second half, the Pirates struck again when Sandzimier used a nice, one-touch pass to free up a streaking Janssen, who slipped her scoring attempt past Van Voorhis for a 2-0 Coast advantage.

The scoring was made complete in the 79th minute when Janssen sent in a shot that was stopped by Van Voorhis, but Ellison picked up the loose ball and found the back of the net with the rebound.

Van Voorhis finished the afternoon with nine saves for the Hornets, while OCC's netminder, Jordyn Gressier notched one save while seeing limited action on her side of the field.

OCC will return to action on Friday at Cypress College, beginning at 3 p.m. The Pirates' next home match will take place on Tuesday against Irvine Valley, also at 3 p.m.
