Pirates notch a pair of wins over Moorpark, Clovis at Ventura tourney

VENTURA -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team made the trip to Ventura worthwhile as the Pirates earned a pair of hard-fought wins this week at the Ventura College Tournament, topping Moorpark, 2-1, on Thursday and Clovis, 1-0, on Friday.

In the opener on Thursday against the Raiders, Coast (2-1-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half on goals by Ciara Brennan and Aubrey Izabal, with assists coming from Izabal and Tiffany Chantler. Moorpark (1-2) cut into the lead with a goal in the second half, but could not find the equalizer as the OCC defense came up big down the stretch. Alison Marlow had two saves to preserve the win.

On Friday, the Pirates and the Crush were locked into a defensive struggle for the entire match before OCC escaped with a 1-0 win on a goal in the 90th minute by Hailey Auer, off a nice pass from Tiffany Chantler.

Marlow notched three saves and picked up her first shutout of her OCC career.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday at home against Rio Hondo, beginning at 5 p.m.
