Pirates run away from Mustangs with 6-0 win

NORCO -- The Orange Coast College women's soccer team made their trek to Norco College worthwhile with a 6-0 Orange Empire Conference win on Wednesday afternoon.

After 35 minutes of no scoring, the Pirates (7-2-4, 5-1-2 in OEC) came to live and never let up against the struggling Mustangs (2-11, 0-9).

Ciara Brennan helped get OCC on the scoreboard first when she fed a nice pass to Lupe Rodriguez and the sophomore forward found the back of the net to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

Six minutes later, Rodriguez returned the favor and earned an assist when she slid a pass to Sabrina Chantler, who scored to put Coast up 2-0 before the end of the first half.

It stayed that way until the 67th minute, when Tiffany Chantler took a pass from her sister, Sabrina, and scored to make it 3-0. Tiffany's goal was the first of four scored over a six-minute span as the Pirates blew the contest open after that. Illiana Casteneda, Tiffany Chantler again and Hayley Auer capped off the scoring for the Pirates, with Rodriguez earning two more assists over that span.

The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday at home against first-place Santiago Canyon, beginning at 3 p.m. The Hawks have won seven straight contests and have outscored their opponents 24-2 since OCC's 2-0 win over host SCC back on Sept. 15.
