Coast rolls past Bakersfield, 8-1

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team improved to 4-1 for the season following an 8-1 nonconference win over visiting Bakersfield College on Friday afternoon.

The Pirates swept through all six singles matches, including a hard-fought matchup at No. 5 singles, where OCC's Charli Crites battled back to beat BC's Lucy Cisneros, 4-6, 6-2, (12-10).

The rest of the OCC squad rolled to straight-set wins, including Clarisa Colling (6-1, 6-2), Karen Trinh (6-2, 6-2), Cecilia Arzaga (6-0, 6-1), Lauren Saito (6-2, 6-0) and Janine Panas (6-2, 6-0).

In doubles, Coast took 2-of-3 with the teams of Arzaga/Saito (4-3, retired) and Trinh/Kaitlyn Dahlberg (8-0) earning wins to cap off the scoring.

The Pirates will return to action on Tuesday as they host Riverside City College at 2 p.m. to open up Orange Empire Conference action.
