Colling named OEC Player of the Year

COSTA MESA -- Orange Coast College women's tennis standout Clarisa Colling has been named the Orange Empire  Conference Player of the Year, as voted on by the OEC coaches, according to head coach Chris Ketcham.

Colling went a combined 28-1 as a freshman this year for the Pirates as she begins her quest for a state singles and/or double championhip. The Villa Park HS grad went 14-1 in singles play and 8-0 in the Orange Empire Conference, while in doubles play, she and teammate Karen Trinh went a perfect 14-0 overall and 8-0 in conference competition.

Colling's strong play in 2016 has earned her the No. 3 seed in singles and a No. 1 seed in doubles as the Pirates prepare for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association State Tennis Championships, set at the famous Ojai Tournament, beginning on Wednesday and going through Sunday.

"Clarisa is an amazing competitor," Ketcham said of Colling. "She's done everything we've asked of her and she just keeps coming and coming after you. It's been a real pleasure to have her at OCC this year."

In addition to Colling's honor, Ketcham was named the OEC Women's Tennis Coach of the Year in his first year as the Pirates' women's coach. Ketcham has been the men's head coach for nine seasons and was the OEC Men's Tennis Coach of the Year in 2008.
