RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College women's team fought tooth and nail against Riverside City College on Tuesday in a crucial Orange Empire Conference matchup and in the end, the Pirates prevailed, 5-4, to remain unbeaten in OEC play at 5-0.

Coast (10-1 overall) picked up straight-set wins in singles play from Clarisa Colling (6-0, 6-1), Karen Trinh (6-2, 7-5) and Cecelia Arzaga (6-0, 6-2) before the Tigers evened the contest at 3-3 with three wins of their own and 4-5-6 singles.

It all came down to doubles play and there, the Pirates took 2-of-3, with wins by Colling/Trinh (0-2) and Charlie Crites/Lauren Saito (8-6).

On Thursday, the Pirates dropped their first OEC match of the year, 5-4, to Saddleback College. Colling continued her fine play and earned a hard-fought, 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over Saddleback's Ashley Glick in singles, while all three doubles teams -- Colling/Trinh (8-3), Arzaga/Kaitlyn Dahlberg (8-1) and Saito/Charli Crites (8-4) each pulled out victories.

Coast will play a nonconference matchup at San Diego City College on Tuesday before returning to the OCC Tennis Complex to host Cypress on Thursday. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.
