Pirates rise and shine early to polish off Imperial Valley

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team set the alarms early and notched a 9-0 win over visiting Imperial Valley on Friday morning at the OCC Tennis Complex.

The Pirates (5-0), picked up six straight-set wins in singles, including Mira Inoue (6-1, 6-2), Jo Ann Taylor (6-0, 6-0), Camryn Mason (6-3, 6-1), Sara Le Boulenge (6-0, 6-0), Claire Boettcher (6-0, 6-0) and Emily Fujita (6-0, 6-0 default).

Imperial Valley nearly notched a "W" in doubles play, but the team of Boettcher/Fujita prevailed, 9-8. Other doubles wins came from Samantha Newhall/Jenna Lieu (8-3), and Abby Welcom/Anouk De Graauw (8-4).

Coast will return to action on Tuesday at Cerritos College, beginning at 2 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Thursday against Cypress, also at 2 p.m.
