Pirates take singles, doubles titles at OEC Tournament

CYPRESS -- It was a clean sweep for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates took home the Orange Empire Conference titles in both singles and doubles play at last weekend's OEC Championships, hosted by Cypress College.

On the singles side, second-seed Miri Inoue picked up five straight wins to win the conference title. First, she topped Riverside's Jolene Beaulieu, 6-1, 6-0 in the Round of 32, then, rolled past Irvine Valley's Anna Kretchetova, 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 16.

In the quarterfinals, Inoue rolled past RCC's Heather Graf, 6-0, 6-1 before moving onto the finals after her opponent withdrew from the tourney.

Inoue then took on No. 4 seed Ellia Rosado from Riverside City College and the OCC freshman made quick work of her Tigers opponent, rolling to a 6-2, 6-1 win to capture the conference crown.

On the doubles side, Inoue and her OCC teammate Camryn Mason picked up a pair of 8-0 wins in their tournament bracket before earning a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Saddleback's Jacklyn Melkonian and Kristina Parks to advance to the finals.

There, Inoue and Mason took on RCC's Graf and Ellia Rosado in the finals and the Pirate duo prevailed in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to win the doubles title.

Up next for the Pirates will be the Southern California Regionals and State Tournament, which will take place in Ojai, on April 26-29. Inoue is seeded No. 3 in singles play, while she and Mason are seeded No. 3 as well in doubles play.
