Pirates blank San Diego Mesa

COSTA MESA -- After prevailing in 91 of 96 games played, the Orange Coast College women's tennis team showed who was boss on Friday with a 9-0 nonconference win over visiting San Diego Mesa.

Going up against a short-handed Olympians' squad, the Pirates (7-1) didn't need much time to sweep through singles. Miri Inoue (6-1, 6-0), Claire Boettcher (6-0, 6-0), Emily Fujita (6-1, 6-0), Samantha Newhall (6-1, 6-0) and Anh Dong (6-1, 6-0) all breezed to victory, while the No. 6 singles was won by default.

In doubles, the teams of Taylor/Sara Le Boulenge (8-0) and Jenna Lieu/Abby Welcom (8-1) posted wins, while Boettcher/Fujita won by default.

Coast will return to action on Tuesday at home against Irvine Valley, beginning at 2 p.m.
