Pirates repeat as OEC champs with 9-0 win over Saddleback

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College is once again atop the Orange Empire Conference mountain top following Friday's 9-0 conference win over visiting Saddleback.

Friday's win, combined with Tuesday's 9-0 win over Fullerton College, wrapped up the conference season and gave Coast a perfect 10-0 record in OEC play (17-1 overall). It's the third conference title in a row for the defending state champion Pirates.

Against the Gauchos (7-9, 4-6), Coast cruised to straight-set wins in all six singles, including wins by Miri Inoue (6-3, 6-4), Jo Ann Taylor (6-2, 6-1), Camryn Mason (6-0, 6-3), Sara Le Boulenge (6-0, 6-0), Claire Boettcher (6-2, 6-3) and Emily Fujita (6-1, 6-3).

In doubles, it was more of the same for the Pirates, with wins coming from the teams of Inoue/Mason (8-2), Taylor/Le Boulenge (8-3) and Boettcher/Fujita (8-0).

The Pirates, winners of 24 of their past 25 matches dating back to last year, have been seeded No. 2 overall in this year's Southern California Regional playoffs and will play Grossmont College at home on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m.
