Pirates edged by Warriors in season opener
HERMOSA BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team opened the 2018 season with a 3-2 nonconference loss to host El Camino College on Friday afternoon.
Coast opened the scoring with a 21-17, 21-18 win by the duo of Sierra Lim and Hannah Del Barto at No. 2, but ECC evened the score with a win at No. 3.
In the No. 1 matchup OCC's Jadelyn Forgiarini and Kacey Mathieson dropped the opening set, but came back to pull out a 17-21, 21-13, 15-11 win.
ECC evened things up once again with a win at No. 5 and in the final finishing match of the afternoon, the Warriors pulled out a 21-18, 14-21, 16-14 win in the No. 4 matchup.
Coast will return to action on Friday with a dual match against Riverside 10 a.m. and a dual match against College of the Desert at noon. Both matches will take place on the Huntington Beach/Newland Street courts.
