Pirates take care of business with 3-2 win over Hope International

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team edged host Hope International University, 3-2, in a nonconference matchup played at the Huntington Beach/Magnolia Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

OCC (6-7) picked up a pair of straight set wins against a couple of familiar faces. In the No. 1 match, the Pirate duo of Kacey Mathieson and Jadelyn Forgiarini topped Shea Beeman and former OCC standout Megan (Ritchie) Armstrong, 21-17, 21-18, while at No. 4, the team of Enjelica Glattli and Alexandra Hayes edged the HIU duo of Taylor Pearson and former Pirate Measha Lindstrand, 21-18, 25-23.

HIU won at the Nos. 2 and 5 matches and at No. 3, the OCC duo of Sierra Lim and Hannah Del Barto needed a third set to settle their match with Anna Stevenson and McKenna Lumley. In the end, Lim and Del Barto had enough gas in the tank to notch a 21-18, 16-21, 15-11 win to secure the victory for the Pirates.

For Glattli and Hayes, Wednesday's win was career win No. 12 for the duo, giving them the most wins by a team in school history, surpassing the previous best of 11, set by Forgiarini and Ritchie last season.

Coast will return to action on Friday at the Newland Courts against Santa Ana College, beginning at 10 a.m.
