HUNTINGTON BEACH -- The Orange Coast College beach volleyball team continued its strong play through the early part of the 2018 season, topping Rio Hondo, 4-1, and Glendale, 5-0, on Friday at the Newland Street courts.

In the opening matchup of the day against Rio Hondo, Coast battled the Roadrunners in five tight matches, and pulled out victories in four of them.

In the No. 1 pairs, the team of Kacey Mathieson and Jadelyn Forgiarini needed extra points on both sets, but prevailed over the RHC duo of Andrea Velasco and Madison Mader, 23-21, 24-22.

In the No. 3 matchup, the team of Rylee Adair and Keiki Yoshizumi needed three sets, but pulled out a 21-15, 19-21, 15-12 win over Felipa Moreno and Michelle Chavez.

The No. 4 pair of Hannah Reid and Molly Thee took care of business with a 21-19, 21-17 win, while at No. 5, Enjelica Glattli and Georgia Grisham posted a 21-18, 21-19 win.

It was MUCH more one-sided in the afternoon match against Glendale as the Pirates rolled to a 5-0 win. Glendale only reached double digits once the entire afternoon as all five of OCC teams cruised to victories.
