Pirates leave Tigers, Roadrunners out in the cold

HUNTINGTON BEACH -- Under less-than-ideal weather conditions at the Newland Street volleyball courts, the Orange Coast College beach volleyball team overcame the elements to roll past Riverside and College of the Desert on Friday morning.

With the temperatures dropping and the winds increasing, the Pirates blanked the Tigers, 5-0, with straight-set victories coming from the teams of Kacey Mathieson/Jadelyn Forgiarini (21-16, 21-13), Sierra Lim/Hannah Del Barto (21-7, 21-15), Rylee Adair/Devyn Holland (21-17, 21-12), Hannah Reid/Molly Thee (21-14, 21-17) and Enjelica Glattli/Georgia Grisham (21-15, 21-6).

In the afternoon matches, Coast continued to roll, shutting out the Roadrunners, 5-0. Much like the morning matches, Coast rolled to straight-set wins with victories again coming from Mathieson/Forgiarini (21-8, 21-13), Lim/Del Barto (22-20, 21-13), Adair/Holland (21-12, 21-17), Reid/Thee (21-18, 21-19) and Glattli/Grisham (21-9, 21-16).

Coast (2-1) will return to action on Friday against Rio Hondo at 10 a.m. and Glendale at 12 p.m. at the Newland Street courts.
