Coast drops 2-of-3 at Canyons Tournament

SANTA CLARITA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team won its Canyons Tournament opener against Cerritos before falling to host Canyons and Riverside this past weekend at COC.

In the opener, Coast (6-11) picked up a hard-fought 78-74 win over Cerritos College. Noah Prouse controlled things down low and scored 28 points on 12-of-15 shooting.  Brad Buchignani came off of the bench and added 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Devaun Evans added 14 points and shared the rebound lead with Prouse by pulling down eight.

The host Cougars enjoyed the comforts of their gym against the Pirates and cruised to a 90-63 win over OCC. Evans had 12 points and five rebounds to lead the way for Coast, while Prouse and Jonah Ganz each added 10 points.

In the third-place game against fellow Orange Empire Conference foe, Riverside, Coast battled hard against the bigger Tigers, but were edged, 74-68. Evans was again strong for Coast with 21 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Prouse added 21 points of his own to go along with four rebounds and five blocks.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday, Jan. 10 at Irvine Valley in their Orange Empire Conference opener, beginning at 5:30 p.m. OCC's next home game will be on Wednesday. Jan. 15 against Cypress, also at 5:30 p.m.
