First-half barrage buries Pirates in loss to Dons

SANTA ANA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team struggled early lost to Santa Ana, 92-72, in an Orange Empire Conference matchup on Wednesday night.

The Pirates (6-15, 0-4 in OEC) had trouble in the first half as the Dons (10-8, 4-0) ran away with a 48-24 lead at the half. SAC shot 60.7 percent from the floor (17-of-28), including five 3-pointers, while the Pirates managed just 24.1 percent (7-of-29) shooting and just 2-of-12 from beyond the arc.

The offense picked up in the second half for OCC, thanks to 19-of-28 shooting, but it wasn't enough as the Dons maintained their comfortable lead throughout the remainder of the game.

Noah Prouse led the Pirates with 18 points and nine rebounds, while Wakim Wakim added 12 points and Tim Pena contributed 11 -- both off of the bench.

For the Dons, Cameron Hill and Cammie Lewis each had 17 points, while Chad Young added 12.

The Pirates return to action on Friday at Fullerton College, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
