Pirates late rally falls short in 79-72 loss to Cypress

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team remained winless in Orange Empire Conference competition following its 79-72 loss to visiting Cypress College. The loss dropped the Pirates to 6-13 overall and 0-2 in the OEC. Cypress, on the other hand, improved to 6-12 overall while winning its first conference game, making the Chargers 1-2.

Cypress turned a three-point halftime lead into a 10-point lead with five minutes remaining in the game before the Pirates mounted a late comeback. After slowly chipping away at the lead, Orange Coast pulled within one point at 70-69 on a Noah Prouse free throw.

However, Prouse missed his second free throw attempt and Cypress responded with an 8-0 run before going on to the seven-point victory.

Prouse, to his credit, led the Pirates with 31 points and nine rebounds. The only other Pirate in double digits was Brad Buchignani who scored 14 points in the loss.
