Pirates' season ends with OT loss to Tigers

RIVERSIDE -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team saw it's 2013-14 season come to a end with a heartbreaking 84-83 overtime loss to Riverside City College on Friday at RCC's Wheelock Gym.

The starting five of Devaun Evans, Noah Prouse, Jonah Ganz, Brad Buchignani and Spencer Poston scored 81 of OCC's 83 points, with Buchignani leading the way with 28. Evans added 27, while Poston chipped in 10.

For the Tigers (12-17, 6-6 in Orange Empire Conference), Taj Adams and Anthony Rounds each had 20 points, while D.J. Muepo added 14.

Coast (9-20, 3-9) trailed 38-33 at the half, but opened the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 45-40 lead.

The game remained close the rest of the way. A pair of made free throws by Poston with 22 seconds left sent the game into overtime, giving the Pirates some extra life.

But Riverside would open overtime with five straight points and held OCC scoreless for the first 3:20 of OT.

Coast battled back, thanks to four straight points by Poston to make it 84-83 with 39 seconds left.

After a Riverside turnover with four seconds left, Coast had one final shot at the win, but a jumper by Evans missed its mark, giving RCC the one-point win.
