Pirates end home schedule with solid win over Chargers

COSTA MESA -- For sophomores Devaun Evans, Jonah Ganz, Spencer Poston and Wakim Wakim, Wednesday night's 96-80 win for the Orange Coast College men's basketball team over Fullerton was the perfect way to conclude their final game inside the Peterson Gym.

Evans led the way with 21 points -- his final coming on an emphatic slam dunk -- to lead the Pirates (9-19, 3-8 in Orange Empire Conference). Brad Buchignani came off of the bench and scored 17 points, while Ganz and Noah Prouse each added 16.

In a game that resembled a track meet more than a basketball game, both teams went back and forth, lighting the nets up. Coast grabbed control of the game with a 22-9 run to start things off and never trailed the rest of the way.

Coast shot an impressive 53.8 percent from the floor (35-of-65) and went 9-of-15 from three-point range. On defense, the Pirates forced 29 Hornet turnovers.

Joel Brokenbrough led Fullerton (6-20, 2-9) with 28 pointsand 10 rebounds, while Dakota Allinson added 16 points.

The Pirates will wrap up the regular season at Riverside City College on Friday night, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
