Evans scores 24 to lead Pirates past Hornets

FULLERTON -- Devaun Evans scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Orange Coast College men's basketball team to a 95-89 road win over Fullerton College on Friday night.

Brad Buchignani added 19 points off of the bench, while Spencer Poston added 15 pints and Jonah Ganz contributed 12 for the Pirates (7-15, 1-4 in conference).

Trailing by 10 with just over 11 minutes left in the second half, the Pirates picked things up and outscored the Hornets 12-2 over the next five minutes to even the score at 72. A made 3-pointer by Buchignani and a three-point play by Lafayette Kittrell highlighted OCC's scoring run.

A bucket by Poston with 6:07 remaining put Coast ahead, 77-76 and a 3-pointer by Henry Nguyen pushed Coast's lead up to four -- a lead the Pirates would not lose the rest of the way.

Fullerton (5-14, 1-4) was led offensively by Joel Brokenbrough, who scored 20 points. Dakota Allinson added 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

The Pirates will return to action on Wednesday at home against Riverside City College, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
