Pirates maintain third place in OEC standings

CHINO -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team kept its comfortable third-place position in the Orange Empire Conference standings with a solid performance at this week's OEC event, hosted by Santiago Canyon and played at El Prado Golf Course.

The Pirates (17-8 in the OEC), shot a team score of 377 for third place at the event. Riverside took the top spot with a 359, while Santiago Canyon edged out the Pirates for second place after carding a 375. 

Leading the way for the Pirates was freshman Nick Zapotoczny, who shot an even-par 72. Close behind were teammates Connor Hurst and Myles Valentine, who each shot 1-over 73s. Miles Young carded a 79, while Zach Eddy and Bryson Bentley each came in with an 80.

Through five OEC matches, Riverside leads the way with a 22-3 record, with Santiago Canyon (21-4) and the Pirates (17-8) close behind.

The Pirates will return to OEC play at Tijeras Creek on Monday.
