Pirates finish second at OEC Finals; qualify third for SoCal tourney

CHINO HILLS -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team finished the two-round Orange Empire Conference Finals on Wednesday at Los Serranos Country Club with the second-lowest team score and finished the conference season in the third place overall.

The Pirates finished third after the morning round on the South Course with a team score of 378 before topping the field in the afternoon round on the North Course with a score of 368. Coast finished the regular season in third place in the OEC with a record of 35-20. Defending state champion Riverside City College took the conference title with a record of 49-6, with Santiago Canyon taking second at 44-11.

Myles Valentine headed home on Wednesday with the lowest two-round total for the Pirates. After shooting an even-par 74 on the South Course in the morning, Valentine carded a 1-under-par 71 on the par-72 North Course, for a two-round total of 145.

Connor Hurst carded a 149, capped off with a 2-under 70 on the North Course for Coast, while Zach Eddy fired a 4-under 70 on the South Course to cap off a two-round score of 151.

Bryson Bentley (78-74) and Miles Young (77-75) each shot a 152, while Nick Zapotoczny carded an 81-78-159 for OCC.

By finishing third overall in conference, the Pirates have qualified for Monday's Southern California Regional Championships, which will be played at the Olivas Links course in Ventura, beginning at 6:30 a.m.
