Pirates settle for seventh at SoCal Regionals

VENTURA -- The Orange Coast College men's golf team saw its 2015 season come to an end at the Olivas Links Golf Course as the Pirates settled for seventh place at the Southern California Regional Tournament on Monday.

Only the top four teams from the regional advanced to the California Community College Athletic Association State Golf Championships and one rough afternoon round by the Pirates proved to be too much to overcome. After shooting an opening-round team score of 365, Coast limped in with a 392 for the afternoon and finished with a total score of 757.

College of the Canyons won the regional with a team score of 346-364-710, followed by Santa Barbara City College (365-358-723), College of the Desert (356-369-725) and Riverside (366-367-733).

Connor Hurst led the Pirates with a two round score of 72-76-148, followed by Zach Eddy (71-78-149), Myles Valentine (75-77-152), Nick Zapotoczny (77-80-157) and Miles Young (79-81-160). Coast teammate Bryson Bentley carded a 2-under-par, 70 in the morning round, but had to withdraw due to an injury, according to head coach Sean Collins.

"This was a very young team and I think we performed well throughout the season," Collins said of his freshman-heavy squad. "I'm looking forward to getting most of these guys back next year and this experience will only make our team that much tougher for next year."
