Pirates take of business; top Raiders in four

MOORPARK -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball team overcame an opening-set hiccup to top the Moorpark College Raiders in four sets on Friday night at Moorpark College in a nonconference matchup.

Nick Amado ripped 22 kills (.576 hitting percentage), while Adrian Faitalia added 16 kills and four blocks to lead the Pirates past the Raiders, 23-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22.

After starting the season 0-3, the Pirates ended their nonconference portion of the schedule on the right foot, winning three straight to improve to 3-3.

Kamaha'o Paio contributed 12 kills, Alec Podrasky notched 22 digs and Steven Duhoux dished out 51 assists in the win.

For the Raiders (0-4), Michael Esper led the offense with 21 kills and 13 digs, while Kai Bowden added 10 kills and 10 digs. Nicholas Shoemate dished out 37 assists and also led Moorpark with 14 digs.

The Pirates will now open up Pacific Coast Conference play at San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will take place on Friday against Golden West, also at 6 p.m.
