Pirates sweep away Knights, Comets to wrap up home schedule

COSTA MESA -- The Orange Coast College men's volleyball team took care of business during Spring Break, sweeping past visiting San Diego City College on Wednesday and visiting Palomar College on Friday to remain on top of the Pacific Coast Conference standings with two road matches remaining.

With the final week of PCC action left, the Pirates (14-4, 11-1 in conference) remain tied with Grossmont (14-4, 11-1), while Irvine Valley (12-4, 10-2) is just one game behind the leaders. Coast will wrap up the regular season in complete control of its destiny with a road matchup at Grossmont on Wednesday (6 p.m.) and a road matchup at Irvine Valley on Friday (6 p.m.).

In OCC's 25-9, 25-14, 25-21 win over SD City, Adrian Faitalia led the Pirates with 15 kills, while Nick Amado and Jack Stafford each added eight. Steven Duhoux dished out 25 assists, while Alex Podrasky anchored the defense with 13 digs.

On Friday, it was more of the same as Coast rolled to a 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 win over the Comets. Faitalia once again led the way with 11 kills, while Amade added eight and Kamaha'o Paio added seven. Duhoux contributed 27 assists, while Torrey Smith and Paio led the defense with four digs each.

In Wednesday's upcoming matchup with the Griffins, Grossmont looks to return the favor on the Pirates, who swept past GC, 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 on March 13.

It will be the Pirates looking for revenge on the Lasers on Friday night. IVC beat OCC in a five-set thriller, 25-27, 25-20, 25-22, 31-33, 16-14, on March 18 inside the Peterson Gym.
