Pirates breeze past Olympians

COSTA MESA -- There were plenty of stats to go around for the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team as the Pirates opened the second round of Pacific Coast Conference play with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-12 win over visiting San Diego Mesa on Friday night inside OCC's Peterson Gym.

Ten different Pirate players registered at least one kill, led by Adrain Faitalia with nine and Nick Amado and Kamaha'o Paio with seven each.

Steven Duhoux dished out 21 assists for Coast (10-4, 7-1 in PCC), while Alec Podrasky anchored the defense with nine.

Donavon Harrison led the Olympians (2-10, 1-7) with nine kills.

The Pirates bounced back well from Wednesday's heartbreaking five-set loss to Irvine Valley and made quick work of the Olympians.

Coast never trailed in the opening set and used a pair of solid runs (5-1 and 7-2 respectively) to take control of things early in the match.

Mesa had a few one-point advantages early in the second set before Coast used a 13-5 outburst to grab the lead for good.

It was all OCC in the third set as the hosts jumped out to a 10-2 lead and never looked back.

Coast will return to action on Wednesday at Golden West College, beginning at 6 p.m. OCC's next home match will be on Friday against Miramar College, beginning at 2 p.m.
